About Jerry – Galveston Cruise Guy

My Story: From First-Time Cruiser to Your Cruise Guide

Hi, I’m Jerry, and I’ve been helping Texans discover the joy of cruising from Galveston. But before I became the “Galveston Cruise Guy,” I was just like you—curious about cruising, wondering if it was worth it, and not sure where to start.

My first cruise was in 1991. I was skeptical. Would I get bored on a ship? Would I get seasick? Would it feel touristy and fake? Those concerns disappeared within the first few hours onboard. There’s something about waking up in a new destination, exploring a Caribbean port, and coming back to your floating hotel where dinner is waiting—it just works.

Over the years, I’ve sailed seven cruises, all with Carnival, and every single one taught me something new. I learned which cabins to book and which to avoid. I figured out the embarkation shortcuts, the dining strategies, and the money-saving hacks that most people discover the hard way. I became that friend everyone called when they were thinking about booking a cruise.

So I made it official. I became a cruise specialist focusing exclusively on Carnival sailings from Galveston. Why Carnival? Because they’re the most consistent, the most fun, and they dominate the Galveston market. Why Galveston? Because I’m based in San Antonio, and I know what Texas cruisers need—from the best route to the port to where to park overnight.

When you book with me, you’re not getting a corporate travel agent reading from a script. You’re getting someone who has actually sailed these ships, walked these ports, and made the rookie mistakes so you don’t have to. I know which excursions are worth the money and which are tourist traps. I know the best time to arrive at embarkation to skip the lines. I know which cabins have obstructed views and which have the best sunrise balconies.

And here’s the thing: this doesn’t cost you a penny extra. You pay the exact same price as booking directly with Carnival, but you get my expertise, my support, and my personal phone number for questions along the way. The cruise line pays my commission—never you.

I also run SATX Select Liquidators, an estate sale business here in San Antonio with 6 years of estate sale experience. That background taught me something crucial: people appreciate honesty, attention to detail, and someone who genuinely wants to help them get the best deal. I bring that same approach to helping you book your cruise.

Whether this is your first cruise or your tenth, I’m here to make sure you have the best possible experience from start to finish. Let’s get you on the water.

What I Believe In

💯

Honest Advice

I’ll tell you the truth about cabins, excursions, and timing—even if it means talking you out of something that earns me less commission. Your experience matters more than my profit.

🤝

Personal Service

You’ll work directly with me, not a call center. You have my cell number. I respond to emails and texts quickly. This is personal, not transactional.

🎓

Education First

I want you to understand what you’re booking and why. I’ll explain options, share insider tips, and make sure you feel confident about your choices.

What Makes Me Different

🎯 Laser-Focused Specialty

I don’t book all cruise lines from all ports. I specialize in Carnival from Galveston. This focused expertise means I know these ships and this port better than generalist agents who book everything everywhere.

🏠 Texas Local Knowledge

Based in San Antonio, I know the drive to Galveston, the best hotels near the port, where to park, and what Texas cruisers need. I’m not a national agency—I’m a local expert helping local travelers.

🚢 Active Cruiser

I’m not just selling cruises—I’m taking them. With cruises booked through 2027, I stay current on ship updates, policy changes, and what the actual onboard experience is like right now.

📱 Tech-Savvy Approach

From my estate sale business, I know how to leverage technology to serve clients better. Quick communication, digital resources, and modern tools make working with me easy and efficient.

💼 Business Owner Mentality

Running business liquidations for 23 years and estate sale company for 6 years taught me that reputation is everything. Every cruise booking reflects on my business. I treat your vacation like it’s my own family’s trip.

🎁 No Hidden Agenda

I don’t push packages or upgrades you don’t need. If an interior cabin makes sense for your budget and style, I’ll tell you. If skipping the drink package saves you money, I’ll be honest about it.

Beyond Cruising: Life in San Antonio

When I’m not helping people plan cruises or running estate sales, I’m at home with my pets: 3 Great Danes and a long hair white cat.

I also run grdane.com, a Great Dane content site that gets significant monthly traffic. Creating content has taught me how to communicate clearly, educate effectively, and connect with people—all skills that translate perfectly to helping first-time cruisers feel confident about their booking.

My approach to both businesses is the same: give people more value than they expect, be honest even when it’s not profitable, and build relationships that last beyond a single transaction. Some of my best cruise clients are people I helped with estate sales years ago. That tells me I’m doing something right.
