HOW TO USE THIS PLANNER
Work through each section in order, starting 14 days before your sailing date. Check off each task as you complete it. Print it, save it to your phone, or screenshot it, whatever works for how you plan.
By the time you reach embarkation day, nothing is last-minute, and nothing is forgotten.
💡 Diamond and Platinum members: Your online check-in window opens at 16 days out, not 14. If you have status, start there. Suites starts at 16 days also.

Complete Online Check-In on Carnival.com
Online check-in opens exactly 14 days before your sailing date at 12 midnight EST. Do it the day it opens, not the week before you leave.
Go to carnival.com, click “Manage My Booking,” and complete the following:
- Upload your passport photo and enter your travel document details
- Pick your Arrival Appointment window, the time you’ll show up at the terminal
- Link your credit card to set up your Sail & Sign onboard account
- Accept the cruise ticket contract
Earlier arrival window = earlier boarding. The gap between showing up at 10:30 AM and showing up at 1:00 PM is real. Grab the earliest available slot while it’s open.
Set Your Earliest Available Arrival Window
This is worth saying separately because people miss it. Arrival windows are capacity-controlled and fill up quickly — especially on holiday and peak summer sailings out of Galveston.
The moment check-in opens, go directly to the arrival appointment section and pick the earliest available slot. You can always adjust later, but you can’t get back an early slot once it’s gone.
Confirm All Passengers Are Checked In
Every person in your cabin needs to complete check-in individually. One incomplete passenger creates a delay at the terminal that slows the whole group.
Log in and verify each passenger’s check-in status before you proceed. If anyone is showing as incomplete, walk them through it now while you have two weeks of runway.

Book Specialty Dining Reservations
If you want Fahrenheit 555 on Night 1 — or any other specialty restaurant book it right now on Carnival.com or through the HUB app. These fill up, especially on 6- and 7-night sailings where guests have more nights to fill.
Fahrenheit 555 is $52 per person base ($62.40 all-in). Chef’s Table is $124 per person base ($148.80 all-in). Book both as early as possible if they’re on your list.
Book Entertainment That Requires Reservations
Some shows and experiences on Carnival ships require reservations, BOLT on the Jubilee, for example. Check what’s bookable for your specific sailing in the HUB app or on Carnival.com, and grab your spots before other passengers do on board.
Pre-Purchase Shore Excursions You’ve Decided On
Popular excursions, especially in Cozumel, sell out weeks before sailing. If there’s a specific excursion you’re counting on, book it now.
Prices don’t improve once you’re on the ship. Pre-purchasing through Carnival’s shore excursion page locks in your spot with the ship-wait guarantee.

Download and Set Up the Carnival HUB App
Download the Carnival HUB app at home on a good Wi-Fi connection, not at the terminal with a spotty connection and one hand on your luggage.
Link your booking number to your account. Learn the layout. Set up your profile. When you board, the app is ready to use immediately: daily schedule, dining menus, Sail & Sign balance, shore excursion booking, and the Day 1 deals that disappear within hours of boarding.

Join Your Sailing’s Facebook Group
Search your ship name and sail date on Facebook. Join the group and introduce yourself.
This is where you find excursion partners, get tips from repeat cruisers who know your specific sailing, and start connecting with the people you’ll be on the ship with. Solo travelers especially benefit from this; it changes the social dynamic of the whole trip.

Notify Your Bank and Credit Cards
Flag every card you’re bringing for international travel and include all ports on your itinerary: Cozumel, Progreso, Roatán, or wherever your sailing stops.
One fraud block on a port day ruins the whole day. It takes two minutes to call your bank or flag it through your card’s app. Do it now.
✅ 10 DAYS OUT
Research Each Port Stop
Spend 15 minutes per port. Look up:
- Best local beaches and beach clubs
- Recommended restaurants away from the pier tourist traps
- Taxi costs from your pier
- Must-see spots and things worth skipping
- Current status of any beach clubs or attractions (things change)
This is the difference between a port day that’s okay and one that’s genuinely great. The Cozumel and other port guides on this site cover everything you need.
Book Galveston Parking or Arrange Transportation
Reserve your parking now, especially if you’re sailing on a holiday weekend, summer departure, or any Saturday during peak season. Off-site lots with free shuttles are typically cheaper than official port lots and fill up just as fast.
Pre-booking online is almost always cheaper than paying at the gate at any lot. See the [Galveston Embarkation Guide] for current parking options with direct links to each lot’s pricing page.
Check Passports and All Travel Documents
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your return date not just valid on embarkation day.
Do this check now, not the week before you sail. Passport renewal currently takes 6-8 weeks for routine processing, not counting mailing time. If you’re cutting it close, start the process immediately.
Once you’ve confirmed everything is valid, make photocopies of your passport, boarding pass, and travel insurance documents. Email copies to yourself and a trusted contact at home.

Make a Full Packing List. Write out every category: clothes by day (one per port day, one per sea day, two dressy options), toiletries, medications, electronics, port day gear, and cabin extras.

Buy Sunscreen, Medications, and Supplies
Sunscreen on the ship costs 2-3x what you’d pay at a drug store. The same goes for seasickness medications, antacids, pain relievers, and first-aid supplies.
Buy everything this week while you have time to comparison shop and make sure you have the right products. Reef-safe sunscreen. Specifically, Carnival asks all guests to use biodegradable sunscreen for beach and pool activities. Buy it before you go.
Sort Out Prescriptions and Motion Sickness Meds
Count out your daily medications plus a few extra days in case of itinerary changes or delays. Keep them in your carry-on, never in checked luggage.
If you’re prone to motion sickness, start medication before boarding for the best effect. Bonine and Dramamine work better when taken in advance rather than after you already feel rough. Sea-Bands are a drug-free option worth packing as backup.

Print or Screenshot Boarding Pass and Documents
Have a printed backup of your boarding pass, booking confirmation, and travel ID. Terminal Wi-Fi is spotty, dead phone batteries happen, and “my phone died” is not a check-in strategy.
Put all printed documents in a dedicated folder in your carry-on. You’ll be asked for them multiple times between the parking lot and the gangway.
Confirm Hotel If Staying the Night Before
If you’re staying in Galveston the night before, which I strongly recommend for anyone driving more than 2 hours, verify your reservation now.
Confirm: hotel name and address, check-in time, parking situation (especially if you have a park-and-cruise package), and any pre-cruise activities you’ve planned. Galveston, the night before, is a genuinely great way to start the vacation early.
Arrange Pet or Home Care
Confirm that whoever is watching your home, pets, or plants knows your exact departure and return dates and has your contact information.
Give them the ship’s emergency line) In case they need to reach you while you’re at sea. The ship’s emergency number is on your booking documentation.

Pack Your Bags Completely
Pack everything now except what you’ll use in the next two days. Checked bags get tagged and set by the door. Carry-on gets loaded with:
- All boarding documents
- Passport or travel ID
- Prescription medications
- Valuables and electronics
- A change of clothes and a swimsuit for Day 1
- Your cruise-approved power strip (no surge protection)
- Small cash for porters and Day 1 port tips
Do not leave packing for the night before. You’ll forget something.
Charge All Electronics
Phone, camera, portable battery pack, earbuds, e-reader, CPAP if applicable, all charged tonight and topped off again the morning you leave.
Pack your cruise-approved power strip (no surge protector) in your carry-on so it goes through security with you rather than potentially getting flagged in checked luggage.
Check the weather for Embarkation Day and Ports
Look at the forecast for Galveston on your sail date and for each port on your itinerary. Gulf of Mexico weather shifts, and Caribbean ports have their own patterns.
Knowing what’s coming lets you pack the right gear and plan port days realistically. A rainy sea day is a great comedy club day. A sunny Cozumel morning changes your beach club arrival timing.
✅ THE NIGHT BEFORE
Put Checked Bags by the Door
Fully packed, tagged with your Carnival luggage tags, and ready to load in the car. Every checked item is accounted for. Anything you need between now and when you board is in your carry-on.
Tomorrow morning is not the time to hunt for your charger, your sunglasses, or your passport. It’s all done.
Set Two Alarms
One for your intended wake time, one 20 minutes later as backup.
If you’re driving to Galveston in the morning, build in a buffer for I-45 traffic, the Galveston Causeway, parking shuttle timing, and the unexpected. Holiday sailings mean heavier morning traffic on every one of those chokepoints. Leave earlier than you think you need to.
Get to Bed at a Reasonable Hour
Day 1 is a full day sailaway party, dinner, exploring the ship, and the first night of entertainment. Showing up at the terminal, exhausted from a late night, dulls the best day of the cruise.
Rest. Everything is handled. You’re ready.
✅ EMBARKATION DAY — LET’S GO
Arrive at Your Check-In Window Time
The terminal manages passenger flow by arrival window. Showing up significantly early often means sitting in a holding area outside the terminal until your window opens. Arriving on time gets you processed efficiently and onto the ship faster.
If you have Faster to the Fun, you have a dedicated lane and can arrive at your leisure, but your window is still worth knowing.
Have Documents Out Before You Reach the Desk
Boarding pass, passport or ID, and credit card out and ready before you reach the check-in agent. Not at the bottom of your bag. Not on a locked phone.
This speeds up the line for you and everyone standing behind you. It’s one of those small courtesies that make embarkation day better for everyone.
Skip the Buffet for Embarkation Lunch
Here’s the tip almost nobody knows: there are other dining options while almost everyone else is fighting the Lido buffet.
The other restaurants on embarkation day are calmer, better, and significantly less crowded.
Complete the E-Muster Drill Right Away
Open the HUB app as soon as you connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi. Find the muster drill section, watch the safety video, and then physically check in at your assigned muster station with a crew member.
Get it done before you explore. It takes 10-15 minutes, and once it’s done, you never have to think about it again.
Walk the Ship While It’s Still Quiet
The first hour after boarding is the best time to explore. The ship is quiet, venues are open but not crowded, and every venue you find now is one you’ll know how to get to all week.
Find the main dining room. Find the specialty restaurants. Find the pool deck, the comedy club, the piano bar, and your favorite bar. After one full walk-through, you’ll never feel lost or uncertain about the ship’s layout.
Get to the Top Deck for Sailaway
Leaving Galveston at sunset is one of the genuinely great moments in cruising. Get to the top deck. Find a spot at the rail. Watch the island disappear behind you.
Put the phone down for a minute and take it in. You planned this, you packed for it, you got through the drive and the check-in line. Now the ship is moving, and you’re actually on vacation.
You earned this.
