Carnival Drink Packages 2026 — Is CHEERS! Actually Worth It?

CHEERS! · Zero Proof · Bottomless Bubbles · Wine Packages · Pay As You Go. Here’s the honest breakdown.

The CHEERS! drink package is one of the first things people ask about when planning a Carnival cruise and one of the easiest things to get wrong.

Buy it when you don’t need it, and you’ve spent real money on drinks you wouldn’t have ordered. Skip it when you should have gotten it, and you’re watching your onboard tab climb all week, doing math you didn’t want to do on vacation.

I’m Jerry Robertson, Galveston Cruise Guy and Certified Diamond Carnival travel agent. I’ve helped hundreds of cruisers work through this decision, and I’ve done the math enough times to know exactly when it makes sense and when it doesn’t.

Here’s everything you need to know about Carnival’s drink packages in 2026 — including one thing specific to Galveston sailings that catches people off guard every single time.

THE CHEERS! PACKAGE

What It Costs in 2026

Pre-purchase (best price): $69.95 per person per day + 20% gratuity = ~$83.94 per person per day all-in

Purchased onboard: $74.95 per person per day + 20% gratuity = ~$89.94 per person per day all-in

Pre-purchasing saves you $6 per person per day versus buying onboard. On a 7-night sailing that’s $42 per person — worth saving. The cutoff for pre-purchase is 11:59 PM the night before embarkation.

💡 TIP: Check Carnival.com in the weeks before your sailing. CHEERS! pricing can vary and occasional sale prices do appear. Pre-purchase is almost always cheaper than onboard, but the exact price can shift slightly depending on when you buy.

What’s Included

CHEERS! covers a wide range of beverages — more than most people realize:

Alcoholic beverages (up to 15 per day):

  • All cocktails and spirits with a menu price of $20 or under
  • Beer including self-serve draft stations
  • Wine and champagne by the glass
  • Frozen drinks

Non-alcoholic beverages (unlimited — do NOT count toward the 15-drink limit):

  • Sodas and specialty sodas
  • Specialty coffees and hot tea
  • Energy drinks
  • Milkshakes and smoothies
  • 500ml bottled water
  • Zero-proof cocktails and mocktails

Discounts:

  • 25% off bottles of wine or champagne
  • 25% off any drink priced over $20

What’s NOT Included

A few things that catch people off guard:

  • Starbucks and Plaza Cafe specialty coffee
  • Minibar items in your cabin
  • Room service beverages
  • Souvenir glasses or beer buckets
  • Cans or bottles over 500ml
  • Drinks purchased in port — CHEERS! is onboard only
  • Drinks at Carnival private destinations including Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay, and Princess Cays

That last point matters more than people expect. On a 5-night sailing with 2 port days, you’re only using the package during sea days and the hours you’re onboard on port days. Factor that into your math.

The Rules You Need to Know

The cabin rule: If one adult (21+) in your cabin purchases CHEERS!, every adult 21 and older in the same cabin must purchase it. No exceptions. You can’t buy it for yourself and skip your travel partner. This is the biggest surprise for first-timers.

The 10-minute rule: There is a mandatory 10-minute wait between drink orders. You can’t order two cocktails back to back. Worth knowing before you get to the bar.

No sharing: You cannot use your CHEERS! package to order drinks for someone else. One drink counts against your package; anything additional for others goes on your Sail & Sign card.

No double shots: Ordering a double shot counts as two drinks under the 15-drink daily limit.

The Galveston rule — read this one carefully: Due to Texas state law, CHEERS! does not activate on Day 1 of your cruise. If you pre-purchased the package, it activates at 6:00 AM on Day 2. Drinks on embarkation day go on your Sail & Sign card at regular prices. Budget for Day 1 drinks separately — this catches people off guard on every sailing out of Galveston.

The Break-Even Math

At $83.94 per person per day all-in, here’s what you need to consume to break even:

Drink Approx. price + 18% auto gratuity Drinks needed to break even
Cocktails ($14-17 avg) ~$16.50-20 5-6 per day
Beer ($8-10) ~$9.50-12 7-9 per day
Specialty coffee ($5-7) ~$6-8 alone won’t do it
Mix: cocktails + coffee + water varies 4 cocktails + 2-3 other drinks

The honest break-even is 5 to 6 alcoholic drinks per day if you’re only counting cocktails. But if you add specialty coffee every morning, bottled water throughout the day, and an energy drink or two, that break-even drops significantly — because you’re replacing multiple individual purchases you’d make anyway.

💡 Jerry’s Honest Take: CHEERS! works best when you drink consistently throughout the day, not just at dinner. Morning specialty coffee, a beer by the pool, a cocktail at sailaway, wine at dinner — that combination gets you to value without trying hard. If you’re a 1-2 drinks at dinner person, skip it and order what you actually want.

IS CHEERS! WORTH IT FOR YOU?

Buy CHEERS! If:

  • You drink 4+ paid beverages daily including specialty coffee, cocktails, water, and/or energy drinks
  • You want the freedom to order without doing cost math on vacation
  • You drink consistently on sea days AND during onboard hours on port days
  • You enjoy specialty coffee every morning — that alone saves $6-8 per day per person
  • Both adults in your cabin are regular drinkers

Skip CHEERS! If:

  • You drink 1-2 beverages per day total
  • Your cabin partner doesn’t drink — you’d both have to buy it
  • You spend most of your cruise time off the ship in port
  • You’re fine with free beverages at most meals
  • You brought your own wine onboard (each adult can bring one 750ml bottle)

THE OTHER PACKAGES

CHEERS! Zero Proof

The non-alcoholic-only package. Covers zero-proof cocktails and mocktails, alcohol-free beer, premium coffees and teas, milkshakes, smoothies, and energy drinks.

Pricing: ~$35.99 per person per day pre-cruise, ~$41.99 per person per day onboard (both include 20% gratuity). Unlike CHEERS!, the price is the same whether you buy before sailing or onboard.

Best for: Non-drinkers, pregnant guests, and anyone who wants specialty coffee and premium non-alcoholic drinks all day without tracking individual costs.

Important: If your cabin partner purchases CHEERS!, you are not required to also purchase CHEERS!. You can purchase Zero Proof instead — one of the few exceptions to the all-cabin rule.

Bottomless Bubbles

Unlimited sodas and juices only.

Pricing (effective April 2, 2026):

  • Adults: $11.99 per person per day + 20% service charge = ~$14.39 per day all-in
  • Children (17 and under): $6.95 per person per day + 20% service charge = ~$8.34 per day all-in

Unlike CHEERS!, Bottomless Bubbles is the same price whether you buy pre-cruise or onboard — no savings for purchasing early, but it can be bought before you sail.

Simple math: if you drink 3+ sodas per day, Bottomless Bubbles pays for itself at the adult rate. Great for kids and soda-focused adults. Same 10-minute wait rule applies.

Wine Packages

If you’re primarily a wine drinker who doesn’t care much about cocktails, spirits, or coffee, the wine package can be a better value than CHEERS!.

Standard:

  • 3 bottles: ~$95
  • 5 bottles: ~$148

Premium:

  • 3 bottles: ~$146
  • 5 bottles: ~$277

Bottles can typically be transferred between restaurants if you don’t finish one at dinner.

💡 TIP: CHEERS! already includes wine by the glass and a 25% discount on bottles. If you enjoy wine AND cocktails AND specialty coffee, CHEERS! is likely the better overall value. The wine package makes sense if wine is literally the only thing you’ll drink the entire sailing.

PAY AS YOU GO — WHAT’S FREE AND WHAT COSTS

Always Free — No Package Needed

  • Water, lemonade, and iced tea
  • Drip coffee and hot tea in the main dining room
  • Juices at breakfast in the main dining room
  • Milk with meals
  • Tap water at any bar or venue

A lot of people don’t realize how much is genuinely free. If you’re fine with drip coffee in the morning and iced tea with meals, you may not need any package at all.

Average Drink Prices Without CHEERS!

All prices have 18% automatic gratuity added:

  • Cocktails: $14-17 + gratuity = ~$16.50-20
  • Beer: $8-10 + gratuity = ~$9.50-12
  • Wine by the glass: $10-15 + gratuity = ~$12-18
  • Specialty coffee: $5-7 + gratuity = ~$6-8
  • Energy drinks: $4-5 + gratuity = ~$5-6

Smart Pay-As-You-Go Tips

Bring your own wine: Each adult 21+ can bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne onboard in their carry-on. A $15 corkage fee applies if you drink it in a restaurant or bar — free to enjoy in your cabin.

Bring non-alcoholic beverages: Each guest can bring 12 cans or cartons of non-alcoholic drinks onboard in their carry-on. Soda, sparkling water, juice — this alone can save real money over a sailing.

Track your tab on the HUB app: The Carnival HUB app shows your running onboard account balance in real time. Check it daily.

Ask about happy hour: Some bars offer specials at certain hours. Times vary by ship — ask your bartender.

THE GALVESTON CHEERS! REMINDER — ONE MORE TIME

Sailing out of Galveston? CHEERS! does not work on Day 1.

Texas state law prohibits activation on embarkation day. Pre-purchased or bought onboard — it doesn’t matter. The package activates at 6:00 AM on Day 2.

Embarkation day drinks go on your Sail & Sign card at regular prices. Budget for them separately and you won’t be caught off guard at the bar before sailaway.
