CARNIVAL TERMINALS — KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Galveston has multiple cruise terminals. Carnival primarily uses Terminal 25 (the terminal formerly known as Terminal 1). Terminal 28 (formerly Terminal 2) sits directly across the street and primarily serves Disney, Norwegian, and MSC — though Carnival sailings occasionally use it depending on the schedule.

⚠️ Confirm your terminal before you leave home. Your boarding pass and Carnival booking confirmation will specify your exact terminal. Don’t assume — going to the wrong terminal wastes precious time on embarkation morning. Terminal 25 and Terminal 28 are close to each other but are not the same location.
Note: Galveston also has Terminal 10 (Royal Caribbean) and the newer Terminal 16 (MSC). Neither is used by Carnival under normal circumstances.
GETTING TO THE PORT
From San Antonio
I-10 East to I-45 South. About 3.5–4 hours depending on traffic. Budget extra time on Fridays and holiday weekends.
From Houston
I-45 South directly to the island. About 50 miles from downtown Houston — plan for traffic, especially on Saturday mornings.
From Dallas / Fort Worth
I-45 South the entire way. Allow 5–6 hours and check road conditions before you leave — this is the longest drive among major Texas cities.
Traffic Warning
I-45 South on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings can add 30–60 minutes to your drive. This is the single biggest variable in Galveston embarkation timing. Build in buffer, especially for holiday sailings.
FLYING IN? HERE’S WHAT TO KNOW

Hobby Airport (HOU) is the closest and most convenient option for cruise passengers flying into the Houston area. Rideshare, rental car, and shared airport shuttle services all serve the route from both airports to the Galveston terminals.
Never fly in the same day you sail. Fly in the day before, stay overnight in Galveston, and start your cruise without the risk of a flight delay costing you the ship.
PARKING OPTIONS
Parking prices in Galveston are dynamic and change based on sailing date, lot type, and how far in advance you book. Pre-paying online is almost always cheaper than paying at the gate.
Official Port Lots:
- Economy Lot (uncovered) — typically the most affordable official option
- Official Garage (covered) — protects your vehicle, costs more
- Express Lot (closest to terminals) — walking distance, no shuttle needed
Third-party off-site lots:
- Generally cheaper than official port lots
- Free shuttle service every 12–15 minutes to the terminal
- Examples include Discount Cruise Parking and similar independently operated lots

WHERE TO STAY IN GALVESTON
The Strand District — Historic downtown with walkable restaurants, bars, and shops. Great for the night before sailing.
Seawall Blvd hotels — Ocean views and easy beach access. Lively area with extensive dining options nearby.
Hotels near the port — Closest to the terminals, ideal if you want to walk to embarkation. Some offer park-and-cruise packages.
Hotel shuttles — Many Galveston hotels offer complimentary shuttle service to the cruise terminal. Always ask when booking.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME — CHECKLIST

- ☐ Pack passport, passport card, or government-issued ID for every passenger

DAY OF SAILING TIPS
Arrive in your window. Online check-in assigns an arrival appointment time. Stick to it — guests who arrive before their window often wait outside the terminal. Real-world boarding typically opens around 11:00–11:30 AM, though Carnival’s officially published time is 12:30 PM.
Documents out early. Have your boarding pass, ID, and credit card ready before you reach the check-in desk.
Label your bags. Attach your Carnival luggage tags before you arrive. Porters take checked bags curbside — tip $1–2 per bag.
Pack your carry-on essentials. Checked bags typically arrive at your cabin a few hours after boarding. Pack what you need for Day 1 — swimsuit, medications, valuables.
MDR for embarkation lunch. The main dining room is not open for lunch on embarkation day on most Carnival sailings — it opens for dinner. Head to Guy’s Burger Joint on Deck 10 or BlueIguana Cantina instead. Almost nobody knows this.
Muster drill first. Complete the e-muster on the HUB app immediately after boarding. Get it done before you explore.

QUICK TIPS FROM THE GALVESTON CRUISE GUY
Allow plenty of time. Traffic on I-45 South can surprise you — especially Fridays and holiday weekends.
Arrive the night before when possible. It removes all drive-day stress and starts the vacation earlier.
Watch for port signs as you approach Harborside Drive — follow signs for your specific terminal number.
Confirm your terminal before you leave home. Going to the wrong one wastes precious boarding time.
